UIK Company Ltd. is based on 'UIK Hanok' and engages in various local projects, proposing sustainable lifestyles in the local community.
Through the renovation of a 90-year-old hanok near Suncheon Station, we operate an offline space (fair trade shop, cafe, gallery) where travelers and local residents can experience meaningful content. We also plan and run community-based eco-friendly projects.
'UIK Hanok' is a hanok built in 1941 in the shape of a 'ㄷ'. It was owned by the late Yang Jae-ryeon, who worked as a railroad officer at Suncheon Station for 43 years (and was the great-uncle of the UIK Store's CEO). Though old and worn, it maintains the original form of a traditional living hanok. The small 6-pyeong space adjacent to the road had housed a tailor shop. In 2018, after UIK Store moved in, the building was purchased and safety renovations began without damaging the hanok's value. After seven years of phased construction, it was rebranded as the cultural space 'UIK Hanok' in 2023.
